NAME THAT STATE!!
Alaska was often called Russian America, before it was purchased by the United States.
Colorado was named Jefferson Territory for one whole year in 1859.
Hawaii had the distinctive name of the Kingdom of Hawaii, from 1842 until 1894.
Ever hear of the State of Deseret? That was the name for Utah from 1849 to 1850!
At the time West Virginia seperated from Virginia it was called Kanawha.
